Beginnings

In 1990 a group of older women led by Barbara Stanley met to discuss the needs of older women.

They wanted to have an organisation that would assist women to meet their peers, learn new skills and have lots of fun. The example of the Older Women of Australia prompted them to hold a Festival celebrating older women.

Barbara Stanley's leadership resulted in a very successful organisation. Since that first meeting, the Older Women's Network (OWN) has grown and we now have a mailing list of over 150 members. We are an Incorporated Society with a Working Committee of older women. A variety of activities and events are organised throughout the year, and an annual Festival of Older Women is held.
